Thermy: Helping identify the Silent Threat of Temperature Extremes in UK Homes for the Elderly

As winter approaches in the United Kingdom, the dangers of temperature extremes in elderly people's homes becomes a pressing concern, especially with recent withdrawal of the winter fuel payment to millions of pensioners.

In the UK, where winters can be harsh and prolonged, low indoor temperatures are a serious threat to the elderly population’s health.

Below 16°C (61°F)
Cold homes can lead to a range of health issues, with indoor temperatures below 16°C (61°F) increasing the risk of respiratory problems and chest infections.

Below 9-12°C (48-54°F)

More alarmingly, when indoor temperatures drop to 9-12°C (48-54°F) for more than two hours, it can cause a dangerous drop in core body temperature, elevate blood pressure, and heighten the risk of circulatory problems.

Heat or Eat

With many elderly people in the UK facing a difficult choice between heating and eating, this "heat or eat" dilemma often leads to inadequately heated homes, exacerbating health risks.  But fear not, help is at hand with Thermy from LPRS, designed specifically for those wanting to keep an eye on their loved ones living conditions by monitoring temperature and humidity.

Thermy’s highlights are:

  • Easy to install.

  • No internet connection required or hub (mobile phone signal required).

  • Thermy is battery powered (for 1-3 years depending on its location)

  • No recurring cost for the standard service*

Thermy senses temperature and humidity every 15 minutes and then reports this every 2 hours.

This information can then be viewed by logging into our secure web page from any mobile phone, tablet or computer.  Additionally, Thermy will email you a daily summary of the temperature and humidity, advising on the minimum, maximum and average temperature and humidity for the past 24 hours.  With this valuable information about your loved ones home environmental conditions, Thermy is a useful tool to help make decisions to ensure they are keeping themselves warm through the colder months.
